Claude VonStroke Mix and a Survey of Philly Clubs in Past 10 Years

I've dug up yet another Claude VonStroke mix. This one comes from July 2006, a bit old but I can't tell since I don't recognize most of the tracks. Its still banging though. Pick up tracks from VonStroke and others on his DirtyBird records from Beatport. Also, there is this party at this place that I may have mentioned once or twice.

Honestly I'm just excited that Fluid is 10 years old. Thats an eternity in club life. I've been going through clubs in my head and can't think of one that has been open the same amount of time. Transit is close but that nearly closed I don't know how many times. Places like Lounge 125 have gone through 4 or 5 incarnations at least in the past 10 years. SoMa use to be a cool spot for dancing but that was converted to Bar Named Sue then shut down. Medusa has been around for ~3 years and before that was a jazz club. Sals has been booking dj's for 1 - 2 years. 700 club has probably been open quite awhile but they never bring in outside talent. Pure used to be huge but under a different name. Skyline and 1516? (I think) used to kill it in Chinatown but have both been closed and leveled since like 98,99. Evolution on Delaware Ave. was big for awhile but is closed. There was Space but that only lasted a few years until it turned into Motion which lasted even shorter and is now vacant. M Room took over where Aqua Lounge left off. Shampoo I think is the only club still open and they've fell off. They barely bring in any big talent any more except if there is a Whistle there. Where else is there? Am I missing something on Delaware Avenue? I'm pretty sure most of those clubs have gone under an overhaul within the last 5 years. Whats your favorite place to listen to dance music now or in the past 10 years? Leave it in the comments.

First Weekend in August

Dear Philly,
Please stop giving me so many choices as to what to do. It makes it very difficult for me to decide what I want to do. Weekends are not supposed to have so much going on. Sundays are for sleep and not for continuing with drinking and dancing. Haha, got you didn't I? No? Ok, anyways...

Diplo / CSS / Bonde Do Role Tour Blog & Hollertronix Reunion

Vicarious living via Chris Lemon Red is available now that the tour has officially kicked off. Chris is travelling along on the bus and will be at every show selling merchandise. Say hi to him and you just may end up on the site. Nudity is a sure fire way.

Meanwhile things in Philly are heating up as the weather kinda, sort of cools down. The show is sold out, all 250 tickets at the Mummers Museum. However, maybe, just maybe, there may be 50 more tickets available. Maybe. (Holla at R5) Regardless, just added is the official afterparty: It's the return of Hollertronix! Oh snap! Low Budget will be joining Diplo for an insane afterparty at Transit from 12 - 3:30 with special guest Dave P and reinforced sound. For all those at the show, its free. If you don't manage to get tickets its only $5. My brain is going to melt from all of this. Open bar 8 - 12. Hollertronix at Transit. Ideally, I will make it through all of this with pictures. Then again...

Snap or Die

snapordie.jpg
I haven't stopped talking about this since I first heard about it but its out now and you need this. When I got this, I couldn't stop bouncing around in my chair. I'm slightly better now, but if I really need to get something done quickly, Snap or Die is not the mix I listen to. Thats exactly what Snap music and the movement is about. Dancing in the club, leaning wit it, rockin wit it and just bouncing around having fun with it.

Restaurant Week vs. Google Maps

With a record number of restaurants (99) participating in the upcoming Restaurant Week, it has become incredibly more difficult to decide which restaurants to go to. We here at 51:51 understand this and have created a Philly Restaurant week map.

With this map you can see which restaurants are in which neighborhoods, show only restaurants from a certain cuisine and get driving directions to each. For your convenience, when you click on a marker, the menu will pop up along with the phone number for you to easily make reservations. After you've checked out the map, check out Community Walk and start making your own maps. We've also been featured on the Community Walk blog as they were so impressed with it.
