When company director James Daly informed his cast that Comic Energy's latest theatrical run would be
a night of fairy tales the group was shocked. Shocked to the point as to where exactly Daly was coming
from.
After Daly explained to his cast that this show would not be family oriented in anyway, the young, rebellious
group took a sigh of relief.
So if a fairy tale show has nothing to do about family, then what is this show? And what is the morale of the
story?
"This show is about the fairy tales, but we take the ideas and we rewrite to appease an adult crowd", says Daly.
Taking a look at the sketch list that is nicely prepared on a Cosi napkin Daly actually showed me what he calls
his secret list. A list that included Cinderella, Snow White, Mary Had A Little Lamb, and the Three Little Pigs.
"There are only two pigs, because they ate the third one", said Daly. He wouldn't reveal to me who the two pigs were
but he did give me a sneak preview on Humpty Dumpty. His parody on Humpty Dumpty pertains to the rapper in the early 90's
from Digital Underground named "Shock G" who has an alter ego named "Humpty Hump".
The cast for this Comic Energy show is a familiar one. In addition to Daly you have the very talented Mike Ford, Danielle Jackson
who plays an array of characters, James Reagan, and CE favorite Frank Fral.
Coming fresh off of a weekend of shows a couple weeks back the troupe looks to keep a very promising eigth season going with a little imagination. And speaking of fairy tales you can't go wrong.

Comic Energy Sketch Comedy Troupe an 8 year Philly tradition continues their season this weekend
at Doc Watson's on Saturday and the new Paddywhack's location (South Street) on Sunday.
The troupe is proud to say that they have been able to bring back some of the old characters for
this performance.
"Krunkie and the Mike Ford Show will be back with many other suprises", says Producer JD Daly.
Some of these other suprises include a Willie Wonka parody, Daly's 'Harry Kalas', and more.
The show has an interesting feel to it coming off a solid month in March thru mid April, the troupe is
focused on a very busy month of May. The troupe has 19 performances in the month and a total of 4 different
productions.
One of these productions includes a theatrical run which will be sketch comedy themed towards fairy tales.
This production will be a week long at the Shubin Theater (407 Bainbridge Street) and will run from May 15th thru the 18th.
"It's going to be a wild time, but we have been through it before. What we are really looking forward to is
the summer, and hell who isn't".

to Philly to prepare for their 9th season debut which will be in the end of September.

Comic Energy proudly presents their annual "MarchAmania!", Saturday night March 29th at Doc Watson's Pub (216 S. 11th Street) beginning at 7pm.
The troupe is currently very busy, performing weekly on South Street and monthly performances at both Doc Watson's Pub and the new Paddywhacks location at 150 South Street (beginning on April 4th).
Coming off a very successful Shubin Theater run titled "A Cruise To Nowhere!", the group is looking to get back to the popular in your face slap stick humor that has made Comic Energy, 'The Attitude of Philly'.
"It's very exciting, MarchAmania has historically been one of my favorite shows to put together", says director James Daly.
And put together well, as Daly mentions that this show is a complete team effort.
"It's no longer about just putting a script in someone's hands and saying...okay, show me what you got. We do countless revisions in our rehearsals to make sure we get it right."
This performance is a continuation of the sketch comedy troupe's 8th season in Philadelphia which concludes in May.
This current Comic Energy cast has quite a mix of characters from the leader JD Daly to young performers like Danielle Jackson add veterans that build a big presence such as Johnny Smith and Zac Ross, a standup comedian in Katie Horahan and Comic Energy favorites Mike Ford, James Reagan and Frank Fral; and you have what Daly says a recipe for success.
"MarchAmania" will be performed Saturday night March 29th at Doc Watson's Pub beginning at 7pm with an encore and a longer version of the performance coming to Paddywhacks the following Friday (April 4th).

Comic Energy, the winner of MyFoxPhilly Hot List for #1 Comedy Club in Philadelphia continues their awesome 8th season in Philly on January 26th with their most exciting production to date.
The troupe is going back to the 80's in 100 percent 80's fashion. The show which runs an hour and a half is total nostalgic from the costumes of the cast to the sketch parodies which range from Night Court to Golden Girls.
"And don't forget The Karate Kid and Back To The Future", says JD Daly producer of the show.
Comic Energy has been a very busy crew the past few months. After opening their season at Doc Watson's in September, they have been performing a brand new sketch comedy show every Tuesday night on South Street as well as performing a monthly themed show at Doc Watsons.
"Every month we have been doing very well at Doc Watson's. I give a lot of credit to the cast and crew for not only their creative input but the talent, so much talent to take these ideas off paper and make them come to life", says Daly.

When attending a Comic Energy show recently you notice a sense of confidence out of the
organization. And the laughs have been non stop from their sell out crowds.

"Comic Energy is a great show, they kinda make you feel like your part of the show
and their skits are one of a kind", said show-goer Frank Smith from Upper Darby, PA.
He has made Comic Energy part of his 'thing to do' and has attended their shows since
September.
Comic Energy winner of the MyFoxPhilly Hot List as Philly's #1 Comedy Show has little to
frown about these days. Director JD Daly has seen it all; "This troupe was in trouble
as soon as May of this year, we were having cast problems, problems booking shows and
even keeping our season shows together but we kept it together and never doubted the work
we have been doing and since then the troupe has been on a major upswing".
In Comic Energy's latest production aptly titled "There's No Place Like Philly for the Holidays",
Comic Energy spoofs 2 of the greatest christmas films of all time, "It's A Wonderful Life" and
"A Christmas Carol",, by using 2 of their most popular characters to date Billy and Krunkie.
"Billy and Krunkie refer to 2 different types of crowds, the people who are looking for
the insane Dave Chappelle type of humor love Krunkie and those who like just plain fart
jokes are going to love Billy".
Billy, played by Philadelphia actor Frank Fral plays Clarence the angel who is in charge
of watching over George Bailey. But in this spoof Billy plays himself with a goal in mind
other than getting his wings, he's hoping to get some ice cream.
And Krunkie plays Scrooge except as himself, after stealing a Salvation Army Donation basket
he is visited by 3 ghosts from his past who convince him to change his ways.
The show also features all brand new sketch material written by award winning sketch comedy
writer and producer JD Daly who sees Christmas as a time of great fun.
The cast includes Daly, Frank Fral, Mike Ford, James Reagan, Kevin Costello, Carissa Hintze, Rachel Yudell,
and Paul Hackett and performs every Tuesday night at part of Tuesday Night Raw at
Tori's (South Street) and also performs their annual season shows every last Saturday night
at Doc Watson's Pub.
"There's No Place Like Philly For the Holidays" will be performed next Saturday December 22nd at
Doc Watson's Pub. Tickets are only $10 and are available online at www.comicenergy.com or
by calling 215-397-3040.

Comic Energy presents "Give Thanks To Sketch Comedy" a tribute to the
beloved craft that creates a tremendous amount of laughter.
Plan to be on hand to witness a re-enactment of the first Thanksgiving,
see a Jewish Pizza Shop, Krunkie's still trick-or-treating, the turkey's
revenge, and much much more.
"This show is a combination of the combined effort of our weekly shows at
Tori's with some of my favorite material I have written as of recently which
I am really looking forward to sharing with our crowd", says producer JD Daly.
It's no doubt that Comic Energy has been thriving since being named Philly's #1 Sketch Comedy Troupe, and MyFoxPhilly's Hot List winner for #1 comedy club. The troupe performs an all new 8-sketches
every Tuesday night at Tori's on South Street. Tickets for this weekly event are
available at the door, a resonable $5 entry fee to see Philly's best when it comes
to sketch and local standup comedians.

Comic Energy was founded on October 16, 1999 by James Daly, with an original cast of Daly, Benjamin Joyce, Tiffany Borton, Dominick Anasasi, and Daniel Quintanilla.
Although planning, sketch writing, and casting took awhile the name Comic Energy was officially formed through correspondance by James Daly and Brian Bodohert on a Hollywood Actors message board. The idea Daly had was to create a sketch comedy troupe that would focus on a democratic way of developing ideas, writing sketches, and putting on live performances.
Comic Energy's first performance would come Jan. 21st, 2000 atop Cindy's Le Danse Studio, making Comic Energy Philly's 1st exclusive sketch comedy troupe and to this day the troupe still operates with the same quality values that it has since then.
The red hot comedy troupe continues their 8th season, Saturday night October 27th at Doc Watson's Pub with their Halloween performance.
C.E. is proud to welcome back long time member Walter Threadgill to the fold and it's as if he has never left.
Coming off their very loud and electrifying season opener at Doc Watson's, the type of performance that had the large crowd hoping for more, and the group hopes to fully satisfy them this time around.
"It's hard to get your fill at our shows because they are only an hour or so, it's just very fast paced and energetic", says producer JD Daly.
The latest installment comes on the heals of Comic Energy's proud accomplishment of being Philly's #1 comedy club according to MyFoxPhilly and features some of Comic Energy's favorite characters in ridiculously hilarious and off the wall situations that all pertain to the Halloween theme.
The cast is juiced and excited to bring their crowd a great performance and come October 27th with no exception to any other C.E. show the audience will leave laughing down the aisles.
Comic Energy presents, "Halloween Mayhem", Saturday night October 27th at Doc Watson's Pub. Tickets are available through purchase or reservations at www.comicenergy.com or by calling 215-514-7508. The cast will look much different come Season 8.
Comic Energy is using the offseason to revamp their cast and
organization for season 8, opening in September.
"Expect many changes", says director JD Daly.
The changes are already apparent as the South Philly group has
been filming many sketches as of recent, and have plans to
participate in upcoming sketch festivals all over the country.
Among these include the Toronto Sketch Fest, The Underground Comedy
Festival in NYC, the Los Angeles Sketch Comedy Fest, and some
undisclosed film festivals.
The troupe is also excited about the production of their first
feature film, "Reminance of School Days", slated for production
in November 2007 in Philadelphia.
"There is a lot to be excited about from a directorial stand point,
this is the first time that I will have the opportunity to mold what
I believe will be the cast that will have the ability to shock the
country", says Daly.
The only cast members confirmed to be part of this new cast is Daly,
Mike Ford, Frank Fral, and Fluffy Locke. The troupe has also brought
back a few names from the past including Norman Schultz and Kim Daviss.
Daly hinted at the possibility of being re-united with some other old faces
from the past. Some names being mentioned by the Comic Energy
creative team include Louis DiSalvo, Nick Deluca, Katie Boyer and
most notably Comic Energy favorite Walter Threadgill.
"The summer is all about improving, and accomplishing our list of
goals we have set forth for the offseason, and I believe we are on
track to getting to where we need to be", says Daly.
With season 8 only 2 months away the troupe has much to do. Comic Energy has
been filming since the beginning of summer and has entered in video
compeitions including Jim Biederman's Sketch Comedy Showdown on dailymotion.com,
and various pilot competitions from Comedy Central and NBC.
"We have been filming brand new sketches I would day on average 4 nights a week.
And many of the ideas we have comeup with has been through a group process."
The troupe is consistently updating their myspace account with new sketch material.
Most recently their sketch on the Phillies 10,000th loss which occured Sunday
night in South Philadelphia.

The Comic Energy Sketch Comedy Troupe concludes their 7th season of live performance with, "Aloha Philly!" (Island Fever) tonight;
9pm at O'Neal's Pub.
The interesting thing about Comic Energy is not only has the troupe been able to survive as long as it has,
but the troupe is actually striving better than ever. "Aloha Philly!" marks the seventh production of this
seventh season for Philly's longest running sketch comedy troupe.
Comic Energy's sketch shows feature a theme based set. September being their season opener was titled, "Back
To School Special" a two week run that featured the groups famed fraternity, "XXXX" (chi chi chi chi).
The troupe is currently writing a screenplay for a film based on the characters and Comic Energy plans on
filming the 60 minute venture this summer.
"The frat movie titled "A Night To Remember" takes the stage version and builds a basis for the characters.
It takes place 10 years after graduation, where you see the main characters of the fraternity in their
new lives. After being re-united at one of their local spots they reminisce about the past and the stories
come to life", says producer JD Daly.
The staged original script was written by JD and Walter Threadgill in 4 days and was performed twice in the past
few years a one week run in September of 2004, followed by one in September of 2006.
"What I like about this new version is the moral of the story, this might be the first time in 7 years that we
have actually hit a moral".
"Aloha Philly!" the troupe's latest stage show opens tomorrow night with some of Comic Energy's more popular
characters of the season, that being "Krunkie" (Mike Ford) on Survivor and "Billy" (Frank Fral), who's idol is
Peter Pan) on a Hawaiian dating show.
The show also features the "Nutrionist" played by Caroline Simmons who teaches us how cannibalism can be
nutrious with the help of an island chief (played by Jon Bissett) and his son "Chi Chi" (Pat Reber).
