NAACP chief says McNabb plays "race card"

Yes, the headline's right. J Whyatt "Jerry" Mondesire, who also publishes the Phila. Sun, has written a screed against the Eagles' QB, calling him "mediocre" and saying that his decision to become a pocket passer -- defying the "black qaurterback" stereotype -- amounts to "playing the race card."

There's only one place on the Web where you can read Mondesire's inflammatory piece: At my blog, Attytood.

Philly mag trashes the Philly blogosphere

Remember this summer when bloggers here -- led by the All Spin Zone's Richard Cranium -- brought the LaToyia Figueroa case to the attention of the national media? The increased publicity played a role in helping police find the body of the 24-year-old pregnant single mom from West Philly -- and arresting her alleged killer.

That was a good thing, right? "Contrarian" Noel Weyrich in Philadelphia magazine doesn't think so. He thinks bloggers "didn't help solve LaToyia's murder. But it felt good to the bloggers because the blogosphere is a great big cyberspace circle-jerk."

Read the whole piece and see if you agree with this "contrarian" viewpoint. Then read my rebuttal over at Attytood. Then toss in your own opinion on who's right.

Talk about bad timing! DN-Inq. hail Trotter

Over at Attytood, we're shocked and appalled that the Daily News and Inquirer are offering fans a Jeremiah Trotter medallion -- on the very morning after his ill-timed ejection helped cost the Eagles the first game of the season.

What can we give away next? A Michael Brown FEMA bobble-head? Or a replica Sunoco Tanker Truck, with a rising, digital price indicator? Come over and ruminate about the worst newspaper giveaway ever.

100 People Who Are Screwing Up Philadelphia (and John Street is #37)

You may have noticed that Bernard Goldberg's latest anti-liberal screed, called "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (and Al Franken is #37)" is climbing the best-seller list, with all the usual suspects (Michael Moore?...give it a rest!).

Anybody can do a national list, but over at Attytood we decided to tackle the regional top 100. Come over and check out where your favorite afternoon sports-radio host, TV weather girl, or man-on-dog-loving politician placed. And then add your own suggestions -- because trust us, a lot more than 100 people are screwing up Philadelphia!

What if....Billy Penn's hat still ruled Philly

Living in Philadelphia is a series of "what ifs" -- and not just for sports fans. This morning, the Daily News launched a series in the sports sections looking at 12 different "What Ifs" that would have changed the Philly sports landscape. The first one ponders "what if Leonard Tose had really moved the Eagles to Phoenix."

Over at Attytood, we said: "Why just stop at sports." (OK, we didn't actually SAY that, but you know...) So we decided to look at the city's broader history, although the first entry in this unique "blog" series does have a sports twist to it.

What if....Philadelphia had decided in the mid-1980s to continue to ban building skyscrapers taller than the brim of Billy Penn's hat atop City Hall.

Lots of parades down Broad Street, the enshrinement of Wilson Goode as a national folk hero, and twin 137-story towers in Camden -- we think you'll be very surprised by what happens in this bizzaro world Philadelphia.

Maybe they should call it "Why 8"

OK, we've all had a few laughs at the not-quite-so-mind-blowing lineup of acts for the highly hyped "Live 8" show here in Philly on July 2. But over at Attytood, I'm starting to wonder if the real problem isn't the music but the message....and maybe even the messenger. Is a free concert really the best way to deal with the massive problem of African debt?

Check out "Why 8" -- and then see if you agree that "Live 8" raises more questions than it answers.
