Campout For Hunger 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

**This is pretty much a mirror post that I did last year on the Campout for Hunger, although a few things have changed; the pic, the dates of the event, and I still don't know if any of the local Hollywood Videos is collecting food like they did last year. **

I've mentioned time and again here on my blog just how much I LOVE Preston & Steve from WMMR. They absolutely (without a doubt!) are the best thing that has ever happened to morning radio. While others are content to listen to all of those "cheap imitations" out there, P&S have been my saviours, as well as THOUSANDS of others every morning for quite a number of years. The humor they bring to listeners is second to none. BTW, to the rest of the morning crew, Nick, Casey, Kathy and Marisa, I love you guys too!

For several years now (since the Y100 days), Preston & Steve have helped the community in more ways than I can count. One of the most noble charity events that they host is the "Campout for Hunger", which benefits Philabundance, a food bank in Philadelphia that helps to feed the hungry here in the Delaware Valley.

P&S campout for a week in the parking lot of an RV at the Metroplex Shopping Center in Plymouth Meeting, PA (Montgomery County) and do their radio broadcasts from there. This year it started today, Monday, December 3 thru Friday, December 7 (it's over at the end of their broadcast on Friday - about 10am). Donations are accepted Monday through Thursday from 6am to about 9pm, and Friday, December 7th from 6am to 10am.

I've gone out there a few years in a row and brought food to help those in need here in my community and I plan on doing it again. There is a big shortage here for those that really need help, so I want to do all that I can.

For all of you locals that read here, PLEASE make the trip up to Montgomery County to meet Preston, Steve and the rest of the gang from the morning show and bring a can or two of food to help feed those who are in dire need.

Acceptable and most needed non-perishable food items include: (Pop Top Lids are always welcome) Canned Tuna, Canned Beef Stew, Canned Chili, Canned Pasta, Beef Ravioli, Mac & Cheese, Ready To Eat Cereal (Family Size), Canned Pork & Beans/Baked Beans, Canned Green Beans, Canned Corn, Canned Fruit Cocktail, Creamy Peanut Butter (Plastic Containers ONLY), Grape Jelly (Plastic Containers ONLY), Boxed Sugar and non-perishables that won't go bad too soon.

If you're in the area "just because" and don't have anything to donate, there is a grocery store in the complex that sells bags of food specifically for this event. Buy a bag, donate and register to win some excellent prizes from WMMR, and also stop in the tent and say hi to Preston, Steve, and the rest of the morning show. You'll fall in love with all of them. I can't begin to tell you how down to earth they all are and how much they really care out those in our community.

For those of you who don't live in the area, I encourage you all to find something similar in your city/state, get involved and help those in need, especially this time of year. A small gesture could make the difference to someone that will last a lifetime.
