This fortnight's final shot from Kathleen's archives is of Lake Towhee in Durham Township. A photo reflecting the painting background Kathleen comes from.
The image starts off at the top with crisp and well-defined clouds. Highlights and shadows forming images in my head — I see a squatting rat with crab claws in the middle of the image — as my eye scans from left to right. The ever present flora cuts an organic horizon into this image. I have to search my head for little strips of trees in Center City.
The photo opens up below the trees with a smooth algae lined arc unveiling a glassy lake surface. The surface reflects the crisp clouds above, at first, without much loss in luninosity. As my eye follows the line of clouds into the forefront, it starts to fade and the shallow edge of the lake pokes through, interrupting the cloud pattern. The partial polarization of the lake surface looks like a watercolor facsimile of the clouds above giving an even more calming effect.
