Photoblogger Fortnight: Laura Kicey 2

laurakicey2 From the last two months of Laura's archives, this is my favorite self-portrait of hers. As I mentioned in the interview, her article on self-portraiture was published in utata.org and this shot is a great example of what I meant when I said that her self-portraits always illicit an emotional reaction.

Sure, part of the emotion is reflexive of the photo being of a human face, something we all have an innate attraction to, but Laura's photos are much much deeper than that. Her shots are always thightly framed, giving us only what she feels we need to see. Her fiery red-orange hair, blue eyes and often washed-out white skin contrast and complement at the same time. But this tiny image doesn't do her justice, click on the image or here for a larger version.

Part 1, 3, 4, 5 of the series.

Terrific photos

Some I see are around Philly.com's offices. I always thought this building was haunting.
