Learn how to make Freedom of Information Act requests

You, me, anyone can report on the government with hard facts by making Freedom of Information Act requests. It's designed for citizens. It's your right.

Jarvis: "You can go to any government agency and to local government as well and file such requests. You want to know about your mayor's expense account? You want to see how other agencies use your tax dollars? File an FOIA request."

The Federal system makes it a simple: fill out an online form. I wonder how to do this with our local government?

Some good advice - "If you want to know how to file a useful FOIA request, start by filing a FOIA request for all FOIA requests filed within the past "x" number of months. That's an "all" request that's actually easy for a FOIA pfficer to satisfy. Look at the language used by the pros. It's also a nice way to see what stories the MSM is looking at." - overheard in a Buzzmachine thread.
