Philadelphia News and Views YOU Write - Urbi et Orbi

My Experience Representing Philly Bloggers on The Situation with Tucker Carlson

I'm told by a friend that when Tucker Carlson got finished with me that he started the next segment with this bit of snottiness:

CARLSON: Welcome back to THE SITUATION. Sitting in for Jackson Pollack, I‘m Tucker Carlson. Time to welcome back G. Gordon Liddy and Rachel Maddow.

Gordon, you heard the contempt dripping from the lips of the blogger guy we just interviewed, mad at the press because he thinks there‘s disproportionate coverage of Natalee Holloway. Sort of hard to argue with that.

I suppose i should be honored that Tucker treats a convicted criminal like G. Gordon Liddy as an equal, while treating me this way?

I saw the segment of which you write (though I normally avoid Tucker Carlson like the plague). I'm not sure what he construed as contemptuous, I thought you were pretty respectful of the host -- more than most of us would have been capable of, given his overall attitude during your segment.

I heard you more than once try to emphasize that this was a non-political issue, but he kept trying to frame it as such anyway. Geez, if he wanted to accuse anyone at ASZ of showing political overtones, that would have been easy, but not on this particular topic. Maybe it's just that people like Carlson, who've weaseled their way into the MSM without much merit of their own, feel like they need to defend the institution that allows them that sort of status.

Most of us understand that there are editorial decisions that go into getting news stories on the air, and it's a reasonable position to state that not every news story is going to warrant excessive coverage (unfortunately, so few of the ones they do cover actually warrant such exhaustive coverage).

Carlson was so busy, though, defending his lifeline that he couldn't hear the most basic reality of this story: It needs to be heard by as many people as possible, regardless of one's position on disproportionate media coverage.

Thanks for representing the cause so well, Steve.

go SD!

Doc, I missed the broadcast appearance, but I've read the transcript and I commend you for staying cool under the pressure, something I doubt I could have pulled off in your stead.
