Phillly Future maintenence upgrade complete

We have upgraded Philly Future to the latest version of CivicSpace to take advantage of new functionality and increased performance.

One of the things you will notice, if logged in, will be "b" icons shown next to headlines across the site. Whenever one is present, you can click it to create a new post, to highlight or quote the headline's story.

Another feature is WYSIWYG editing of posts. Click "enable rich-text" when writing a new story to use it.

A Topics menu has been added to the site's Navigation menu to clear up the cluttered home page a little bit, but keep easily available navigation to the site's inner categories.

There is now easier to use functionality to upload files and photos. This functionality gives us podcasting capability - but can't use it until we can answer bandwidth and server resource issues.

This was the result of a two week part time project to bring Philly Future up to date with CivicSpace Lab's latest. This was to help insure a smooth upgrade path. Underneath the covers, CivicSpace has changed considerably, so there may still be issues. If you notice any problems, please leave comments in this thread.

Thank you,
Karl

No, thank you Karl...

All the new functionality is wonderful -- it should be no secret that you've put a lot of effort into making the Philly Future experience ever more user-friendly. Thanks for the hard work!

Kool Karl

Thanks for keeping the Future current!

I wish I could figure out how to post photos with my entries on here...

Take another look Jessika - I just fixed an access bug.

Might make more sense now.

CSS

Is there something tricky with the CSS?
It looks great in Firefox on Mac OS, but Safari is all honked.

It's like it's not loading the CSS correctly. The content is there, but the formatting is not.

I can send you a screenshot if you want.

There's nothing new with the CSS...

Hmmmm... in fact I haven't changed it for this release. Wonder if the blog it buttons that CS .8.1.2 added are messing with it at all.

Send me a screenshot - I will take a looksee and try and debug.

Thanks Alex :)

WYSIWYG

Another feature is WYSIWYG editing of posts. Click "enable rich-text" when writing a new story to use it.

Where is this button?

it's right underneath the text field

it's right underneath the text field that you enter your post into and is a labeled link "enable rich-text". It *should* be a button or checkbox. That's a Drupal usability issue that maybe I can resolved with some templating.

i see it

thanks

my fav feature

is that the cookie remembers me every time now, even when i close and reopen the broswer. sweetness. constant logging in was not the best.

I thought it was just me!

that was happening to me, too, Albert. Great to have this fixed.

Karl, congrats on the upgrade -- I know it wasn't easy. The new features are great...easier image uploading will make a big difference for a lot of people. That's now done through the "attach a file" option, right?

It's the attach file option....

Yep. I didn't realize they fixed the cookie writing to handle /phillyfuture and /www.phillyfuture. Very cool.
