Phils Rheal-ly Maddening, Eagles Improve Cap Space

Sorry, I stole the concept behind that headline from Beerleaguer, who expresses the same frustration I was feeling in the later innings of last night's Phillies matchup with the lowly D-backs in Arizona (which incidentally, means our wild-card leaders dropped 2 out of 3 in the weekend series).

Meanwhile Phillies Foul Balls wonders what it'll take for Uncle Charlie to come around and realize that this team is getting killed not just by Rheal Cormier, but David Bell, too.

And in Eagles news, Corey Simon has flown the coop, or perhaps it would be more accurate to say he was given a slight push.

Joe Banner

Joe Banner, of the Eagles, was on WIP today... he was explaining how the Eagles would appropriate the cash. First they will seek out new talent to help the team. If that's not available, they'll try to wrap up the talent they have with longer deals. Finally, they can actually roll left over cap cash into the next year, expanding next year's salary spending cap.

It was on Wolfman Eskin's show, so take it for what that's worth. But the ability to roll cash forward is interesting anyway. He also said the only issue holding up a long term deal for Westbrook is agreeing to a dollar amount.

There's something about Joe Banner that seems genuine. I don't ever get that feeling from Ed Wade. I'm not sure what the difference is there -- it's probably mush easier to be open when your team is on (or at close to) top of the world.
