Bill Smith & Main Line Rescue Are Angels to Hurricane Pets

Remember after Killer Katrina struck, we were asking who was going to help the animals? (http://www.phillyfuture.org/node/1634)

We would like to take a minute to tell all of you about our local unsung hero of animal rescue: Bill Smith of Main Line Animal Rescue. We have already told you how much we admire, Bill, but it is an understatement to say how PROUD we are of him (there actually aren’t enough words!). On a normal day, Bill works tirelessly to rescue forgotten pets and place them in new homes. On a normal day, Bill doesn’t get an eighth of the recognition that other, bigger animal rescues get.

Bill has worked tirelessly on spay and neuter programs, as well as on stopping the scourge of puppy mills that give real dog breeders a bad name.

Bill Smith this weekend cam to the aid of abandoned and homeless pets in dire need along the Gulf Coast. He put the word out quietly, and without much fanfare, as is his way. There were no press conferences or media releases, just Bill quietly asking who could do what, and what he wanted to do. The response was overwhelming.

(Braxton’s Animal Works in Strafford, PA (http://www.braxtons.com/),
graciously supplied not only a drop off point, but tons of pet food, etc. as well.)

People came in droves, car after car, to Braxton’s from all over to donate to Bill’s Animal Hurricane Relief effort: cash, food, veterinary supplies (crates, bedding, towels, and vaccines), etc. People, with whom he had placed dogs, cats, rabbits, you name it, came to donate to Bill because of what he had done for them and their pets. And not all of these people can really afford to give at all, yet, because of what they think of Bill and what he has done for them, they gave of themselves. He has so much stuff, he had to get a really big truck!

Do you have tears in your eyes and a lump in your throat yet? You should because Bill embodies a spirit of goodness and volunteerism that you should recognize. Bill can be reached at 610-337-9225 & through mainlinerescue@AOL.com and adopt@mlar.org (www.mlar.org)

So do the right thing, recognize Bill. He is right now, as we hear it, en route to a southern drop off point in we believe, Virginia. From there, his huge truckload of pet stuff will find it’s way to the Gulf Coast!
