We are pleased to announce the public opening of phillycrime.org -- a freely browsable database of crimes reported in Philadelphia.
Phillycrime.org is designed as public service to provide the Philadelphia community with easy access to up-to-date crime information. Citizens may use this site to learn when and where specific types of crime tend to occur in their neighborhood or workplace. The data at phillycrime.org will be regularly updated and maintained.
Phillycrime.org allows users to select crime incidents by calendar date, time of day, and crime-type -- and to display the crimes on a clickable google-maps interface.
The crime data have been collected by the Philadelphia Police Department and the UPenn Police Department. Data are currently limited to West Philadelphia, but hopefully all of Philadelphia will soon be covered. Please visit phillycrime.org to learn more about the underlying crime data.
We hope that this public service will help to inform citizens in a thorough, relatively unbiased manner about criminal activity in their neighborhoods, so that they can make informed decisions about personal safety.
Feel free to distribute this message, or to make suggestions for improving phillycrime.org.
