The Fuss over Net Neutrality

If the whole concept of net neutrality escapes you, you're not alone. Over the past couple days, almost nobody I've spoken to about the issue has had any idea what it means. But does that mean it won't affect you?

If your eyes glaze over at the mention of "net neutrality", perhaps a peek at MyDD's featured content on the subject will help. Other offerings on the issue include Art Brodsky (writing at TPM Cafe), who has a concise explanation of why he sees the loss of net neutrality assurance as a bad thing. And the folks over at Save the Internet also have a lot to say about it.

On the other side of the issue are websites like The Future Faster and Hands Off the Internet, powered in large part by the companies most interested in seeing the net neutrality policy change.

The House Commerce Committee is poised to vote on the policy this week. For more comprehensive view of the issue and its history, you might also want to read the Wikipedia entry on network neutrality.

Also, a video to help illustrate the point.

this is important

Of course, there are many other ways to contact your legislators and encourage them to act in your best interest, including one of my favorite all-purpose tools which is offered by Public Citizen.

Thank you, Howard

Timely post with excellent references on a crucial topic. This has major implications for all of us. Architecture--in the technological / code sense--is more powerful than law. It directly constraints without consent or review.

We do need to rally on this. Keep us posted, please.
