From yesterday's Bucks County Courier Times:
After more than 30 years in the restaurant industry, Raymond “Skip” Goodnoe is calling it quits and closing the historic restaurant and dairy bar that has carried the family name for five decades. ...(full text)
The Bucks County landmark will close its doors to the public this coming Labor Day. If it seems a cruel irony that such a business should announce its fate over the Memorial Day weekend, which has become the popular symbol of summer's start, then at least it's fitting that the establishment will remain open until summer's symbolic end.
Here's to one more summer with that delicious, locally-owned, locally-produced Goodnoe's ice cream. If you live in the area and you haven't ever been there, or you haven't been there in a while, you'll still have the chance over the next few months before it's gone.

so sad..
this is sad Howard...they have righteous icecream there!
I just found out about this,
I just found out about this, and I am sad. I was there around 1986 with my aunt and uncle (and her mom, my mom's mom from Allentown, PA who passed away Jan 2006 to illness) who live in Newtown, I'm from Allentown. My grandfather, my mom's dad, passed away Dec 2000 to illness. Both my dad's parents are alive, grandma in Emmaus with one of her sons, (another son is in Emmaus and other two are in Los Gatos, CA and Houston, TX) she was in FL for several years and before that South Allentown, and years ago before I was born, Tamaqua, New York Bronx or Brooklyn. Grandpa is in Florida 60 miles north of St. Pete. Not sure how much longer he has, he's in his 90's. My dad passed Mar 8, 1986. I was born Jan 14, 1974 and my brother June 17, 1978. My aunt and uncle moved to Newtown in 1979. They lived in Allentown first, then Hockessin, DE for two years before Newtown. Their two kids, son born Dec 1973, and daughter born Dec 1976 now live in West Chester and Phoenixville. The son is married since April 2001 and has an almost 2 year old son. The daughter is single. Enough with my family history, Goodnoes will be missed. Say hello to more bland development and chain stores. There's enough expensive chain ice cream shops out there. Marble Slab, Cold Stone, Maggie Moo's, etc. There's alot of family businesses that have been saying goodbye lately, from amusement parks (such as Myrtle Beach Pavilion 1948-2006 or Coney's Astroland (NY Brooklyn) 1962-2007-8 or whatever) to restaurants, to small stores eaten up by Wal-Mart. It's a greedy society lately. Mansion size homes are being built everywhere and sell for a million, giant land hogging Wal-Marts, Starbucks everywhere.
