Snuff it out, pal

News Item:
See a smoker in Omaha? Dial 911

No joke. Omaha, Nebraska, just passed the strictest no smoking law in the country, and the police department is urging residents who see a violation to call 911. Doesn't that sound just a little heavyhanded? Can you imagine how that edict would play in Philly or New York, where the emergency response system is already overloaded?

[911 Operator]
"I understand m'am, I know your brother got shot,
but someone saw a smoker at the Four Seasons."

There is a loophole though, every law has to have one. Smoking is permitted in bars that have a state issued Keno license. So if you're a degenerate gambler [is Keno degenerate?], then fire 'em up and smoke out the place, because you're ok, you're the one that's filling the states Keno coffers.

Got to love when people do not do research. You get an F. Omaha is not the toughest, Denver has more restrictive laws. Also smoking calls go to the bottom of the list, in other words every other incident is more important. Try not just throwing some story together and doing some work for a change.

Nevertheless, I could imagine this playing here in town. My detective division handles about 150 jobs a day, so I can imagine how insane our workload would be with this nonsense.

Your source

John cited his source, and it doesn't say anything about the bottom of the list. You went to the trouble of leaving a comment about it, so I assume you must have seen a more comprehensive version of the same story. If you want to correct the record, why not refer people to a more complete story?

Even so, I have to agree with those who worry about the potential effect of clogging up a 911 system with calls about smokers in the neighborhood bar.
