In local political news: Seth Williams is on a roll, and Santorum gets a lashing

Organized labor in Philly is continues to array in support Seth Williams for DA. Young Philly Politics has the details on DC 47's endorsement yesterday.

Update: According to America's Hometown, seven local unions now support Seth Williams.

Tim Targis, from the Democratic U.S. Senate campaign of Chuck Pennacchio posted to MyDD a list of charges against Santorum. via Attytood (Sorry about the word for word paraphrasing there! I have no idea how to quote that otherwise). Go to Attytood and MyDD for related discussions.

Organized "Labor" (or LACK of labor as the case may be)

Ahhhh...the Unions. The thing about Philly that I HATE the most. I will always vote for whichever candidate the unions don't want --it trumps most other issues... The Man and I own an HVAC business and thanks to the wonderful unions he is once again leaving for work after dark and returning in the wee hours of the morning as to have his tires remain un-slashed, etc. We are contemplating a move to N.C. --a 'right to work state'...imagine that concept Local 420 --EVERYONE has the RIGHT to work and to bid jobs fairly without price gouging. What a novel concept.
Sorry for the somewhat unrelated rant Karl...organized labor is my Jekyll/Hyde key word...

I think it counts upon context

No need to apologize. Some unions are in serious need of reform - just like some of our politicians and corporations.

But is that really a reason to walk away from the thought of voting for someone? Union support? Not all unions are 'bad'. Some are necessary - otherwise - we'd all be ending up in Wal-Mart employment situations.

Have you talked to the police about the slashed tires? Maybe some webcams in the right place can nab the bastards doing that to you.

Sometimes I feel like I speak too naive. I know I do sometimes. I got a feeling this is one of those times.

Unions, cont.

Karl:
No, not naive...because how would most people know? I never knew until we were in the thick of it. The Unions are pretty much untouchable -I don't want to sound like Tony Soprano or anything, but they are protected all the way to the top (or so it would seem). You pretty much have to accept the fact that if you are not union you are not working in Philly unless it's after 8pm.
As for some of the Unions being necessary --I think Unions began for an excellent reason (Silkwood is one of my favorite movies) and I think that many of the Unions are still looking out for thier workers and not just themselves (Police/Fire Union, Nurses Union, etc.) But the labor industry (electricians, carpenters, HVAC, etc.) could never have a Wal-Mart situation and organizing labor only causes corruption and skyrocketed prices for the customer. You will pay twice what the job is worth through the Union and they will take 50 breaks and leave at three. There is always a demand for good mechanics...so no need for unions, if you don't like your boss quit and find a better company. So many other states have done it...but (PA) Philly is too controlled by them...
(Sorry, I could go on about this forever...)

A good comparison between union and non-union...

Your typical Toyota Corolla is made by union workers in this country, while your typical Ford Focus is made by non-union workers elsewhere. I'll take my Corolla over a Focus (price-wise and quality-wise) any day of the week -- no offense to those who've paid out about as much, if not more, for a Ford Focus.
