No, it's not a religious slogan for those of us extolling the virtues of our fair city. It is a campaign to encourage savings and wealth in low to moderate income households in the Philadelphia area.
Many of us have experienced financial frustration, whether it be a lack of extra income for the things we want, or simply the money we need to make ends meet. Very few of us were born economists, and to make it worse, we live in a culture that encourages us to spend, spend, spend. Add the current political landscape, with bankruptcy reform and other legislative measures practically written by big business, and some of us can use all the help we can get to set ourselves straight financially, maybe even build a little safety net of our own.
That's where Philadelphia Saves comes into the picture. Part of a larger campaign called America Saves, the Philadelphia wing of the campaign offers many valuable services, like financial planning help and partnerships with local institutions offering better deals on financial services. They even offer financial workshops in partnership with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Delaware Valley. The next one is the 28th of this month, in case anyone's interested.
