Hunting Park (Phila., Pa.) -
In 1809, the first horse racing track (trotters) in America was created at what is now Hunting Park. In 1854, the state of Pennsyvania outlawed betting on horses.
In 1902, the Dentzel company built a carousel in the park. Their factory was only a few blocks away at 3635-41 Germantown Ave., and prospective customers would be brought to Hunting Park to see and ride a finished carousel.
The carousel was removed in 1967. It was the last carousel to operate in the city of Phila. The "lead horse" now resides on the carousel at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.

Reese & Lycoming
What a good area to grow up .... Everybody knew everybody ,People looked out for people ,Streets were cleaned by the people who lived there .... Helen and Phil Belski use to own a store on the south side on reese and lycoming.... Talking about A Blast From Your Past .... Cokes were only 10.cents .... Remember playing knuckle ball on the corner using the sewers lids for the bases ..... 4100 Reese street use to be a great street during Christmas & Halloween .... Good old John's on 5th & lycoming another small time business with GREAT FOOD for the price .. Fairhill & Lycoming ... Herman the Barber ,Always would cut your hair cheap and long with your ears .. LOL ... Then there was VINCE The Talior ... It took care of all the people needs cheap when you needed patches on pants or zippers repairs ... 6th & Lycoming Streets .. You had Ken The barbar... Classic ED's Bar ... Manchers the butcher Great meat and home ogf the penny and nickle candies .... As for school Mc Clure school was a great school with a great playground ,, The Swings - Monkey bars and the ROPES what a great ride for kids of all ages .... Then there was gully ball after school hours .... Think that was the only school that you could play that game in ..... These were the good days of that area .... Now I know you found burn out buildings dead bodies in them and plenty of drugs .... How does a good neighbor hood go from GREAT To TRASH !!! ...
