Who knew? Harcum students as bank robbers, including being suspected for the Ardmore M&T bank robbery? What the heck kind of college students are they letting in around here these days? Truth be told, we knew yesterday as SAC members asked CBS3 why they were running around Ardmore all afternoon.
Sheesh, you think these kids would have learned from the mistakes of the other college sudent bank robber from Lehigh University.
But back to who is going to local colleges these days - what kind of background checks are they performing before a kid is admitted to college now? And what makes a kid drop their books and become a robber? What happened to working at the mall or at a restaurant or delivering pizzas? Is it cool to be violent?
And now that these kids aren't on campus, where are they? Are they still around here?
Police Raid Harcum College Dormitory
(CBS 3) BRYN MAWR, Pa.
Police in Montgomery County raided a building on the campus of Harcum College in Bryn Mawr Friday.
Authorities said members of the Lower Merion S.W.A.T. team entered a dormitory during the mid-morning hours as part of an investigation involving two students and three bank robberies and the robbery of an Adult World Video store.
According to sources, two unidentified students received an interim suspension from the school.
Police said a substantial amount of money was stolen during the bank robberies and a clerk was tied up and a car was stolen in the adult store robbery.
"We was in the hallway when they came in and told us to lay on the ground and don't move until the process is over," said student Floyd Wilkins.
Witnesses said the officers were seen removing items, including clothing, from the building.
"I was freaked out cause there were a lot of cops and I thought something else was happening," said Wilkins.
School officials would not elaborate on the investigation but did say they were contacted Thursday by the Lower Merion Police Department asking for assistance in the case.
