We've been meaning to post our terms of service for participants in the Philly Future community for a long time, and in the wake of the blogger Code of Conduct discussion, it seemed a good idea.
It outlines, right up front, the policy we expect participants in our community to abide by and our volunteer team to follow. You can read it here.
These terms have been floating around in emails for some time, but in a community the size of PF, it's best to have them in a location easily referable.
Unlike the 'Code of Conduct', being discussed, which dictates forum/blog owners to take responsibility for comments posted by participants, our Terms of Service reflects the Internet "You Own Your Own Words" tradition. A tradition that respects the freedoms of the individual to communicate and converse.
But with that empowerment comes personal responsibility.
The next step is to flesh out the Editor's Handbook to surface site maintenance procedures and work flow to the community, the goal being complete transparency.
