Specter feeling some heat.
Arlen Specter yesterday, when talking about the Immigration er Amnesty Bill that he has a “sense of wonderment about what the American people are thinking at this moment.” It’s probably because Senator Specter is getting deluged with phone calls and emails telling him how wrong his stance on this issue is. I tried numerous times last night to get through to his office and kept getting “the person you are trying to contact mailbox is full”. This morning I got through and a very frazzled guy answered the conversation went like this.
guy: Senator Specter’s office, how can I assist you.
Logan: I’m calling to voice my displeasure over the Senator’s stance on this amnesty bill for 12-20 million law breakers.
guy: Well sir I’ll note that for the Senator but FYI the bill is dead.
Logan: The senator last night commented that the bill wasn’t dead yet and that it was on life support, I’m aware that cloture failed last night but that doesn’t preclude them from bringing it back.
guy: That is correct sir.
Logan: If Senator Specter continues to abandon his Republican base and the citizens of Pa., we will abandon him. Many of us have already due to his decidedly liberal swing since President Bush helped him win re-election.
guy: The calls coming in are definitely against the immigration bill.
Logan: Alot of calls bashing it?
guy: It’s about 10-1 against it, sir unless there’s something else I can help you with our lines are going off the hook with people calling against this bill, it’s been like this all week.
Logan: Hopefully the senator will listen to them.
guy: Well goodbye sir.
Poor guy seemed to be totally frazzled and tired of hearing from all the people against this craptastic bill. You know President Bush used to say he was a “uniter not a divider” well I think from what I’ve read on both left and right web sites that he’s finally succeeded. It seems the majority of American’s are against this bill once they learn what’s in it. http://freedomofphiladelphia.com

Amnesty?
If you want people to make an informed decision about the bill and "learn what's in it," Logan, calling it an amnesty bill isn't helping any more than the New York Times claiming it creates an underclass of workers. In truth, the bill does allow illegal immigrants to become legal immigrants, but only if they pay fines, touch back to their home country for a certain period of time, and meet language and skills standards. I don't think the bill is perfect, but it's disappointing that the Senate hasn't made the most of the opportunity to decrease illegal immigration by making a legal path a more feasible option for immigrants while simultaneously shoring up the border. Empty rhetoric like "amnesty bill" won't help anybody address this issue at all.
