Philly Future Block Captains and Ward Leaders

The other day I mentioned that we would be granting new permissions to trusted users.

The idea has now evolved to two new roles for participants at Philly Future: Block Captains and Ward Leaders.

Block Captains will have the capability to automatically promote or demote anyone's posts across the service, to the home page.

Ward Leaders will have the same capabilities as Block Captains, but will also be able to moderate comments and much more, for example, to be able to create new sections in the Userguide.

We will be sending out emails to users who have been selected shortly, but if you're interested, leave a comment or send some feedback.

Philly Future belongs to the community and the more we open management of it to everyone, the better the service will be.

Just curious if these selections have been made. I'm unclear on how this changes Philly Future...

We're still hashing it out :)

Folks haven't been selected yet, and we're still working on the details of this. I hope we can make some progress this week.

As it stands, Philly Future has a small volunteer team that acts as the service's citizen editors - they promote stories, monitor the regional blogosphere to spot trends, help monitoring comments for spam, decide what categories the site should have, they help set the service's tone with the entire community.

What we're hoping to do is both make the decisions behind all that far more transparent, while increasing the size of the citizen editor team on the service - opening it up in a really big way.

It will be an interesting experiment. Will it work? What will result from it? Will it be utilized in a way that takes off? Or will it simply be additional site functionality that doesn't change things much?

Feel free to email me at kmartino at phillyfuture dot org if you're interested in taking part :) It's going to be an adventure.

Block Captains

Concerning block captains, who do I talk to to find out who's the block captain on my block.
