Philly Future Weekend Roundup

Things to See
Philly Shreds, a site for the Philadelphia punk and hardcore community, lists a number of shows taking place this weekend. Where else but Philly can you see Cannibal Cow, Troublebound, and Zombie Vandals on the same weekend? (True confessions: I'm having a tragically unhip moment right now.)

Shallow Center says the Phillies started a seven-game homestand on Thursday. Hey, even if the Phillies do more of what they've been doing, $1 hotdogs and a batting helmet of ice cream can always soothe the disappointment.

Things to Do
River Tyde has some thoughts about birding and books.

There's always iPod Tarot. Sarcasmo's Corner is in your future.

I'm not sure if many people will be interested in this art house film, but Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith debuts May 19. (I know it's not a weekend thing, but it happens before next weekend.)

Things to Drink
Promothree paints a powerful picture of a Penn student pub crawl on Walnut Street. Okay, it was chance at "P" alliteration. He refers to a set of pix of Walnut Street in Reverse on Philly Will Do.

Things to Think
Societas has some thoughts about political integrity and idiocy.

The cleverly named Tommywonk also gets the politcal neurons firing.

The PR Lawyer helps bloggers think about media relations. With the kind of publicity some members of the Philly Future community are getting, this blog should be a must read.

This would make a great regular feature

I don't know if this will be an ongoing feature, but I like the whole to-do list feel of these weekend posts.

I'm with ya Howard

I love this. And imagine if we had folks in each neighborhood of the city posting similar, neighborhood specific weekend round ups!

Actually...

Dan at Philadelphia Will Do wrote the essays that I linked to. I don't think my own short post was that powerful at all.

Alliteration

Finding material is powerful in itself, so I went with that. Didn't mean to mischaracterize, but it's mediated reality. Cheers for pointing it out.

I'd like it if we could keep this up

We have a lot of sources on Philly Future. It'd be great to get PF members to send in links from their blogs and we can compile. I also really like Karl's idea about nighborhood-specific lists...that would really increase the usefulness. Cool.

Thanks

Thanks for the correction. As much as I'd love to take credit for great work...

Do you think this should have its own sub-category?

"Weekend Roundup" under "Things to see and do"?

I second your idea for "PF members to send in links" Frank. I think even better would be if those folks felt empowered to share here directly - bypassing contacting the team to post. They can already do that in fact - and some do - but the word isn't out yet to the entire region and the site design still doesn't convey that well enough I think. That way the team is freed up to promote to the home page the most relevant writing.

Suggestions?

regular feature

Frank, if you ever need a break, we can rotate the responsibility for this around the team.

Empowerment, yes

Karl, people going directly into a category and posting would be the best. I would also like the diversity of writing. I'll keep plugging away...and Matt offered to step in as well. So...a group effort is great. I've had a blast just having a reason to look at all the great material that's out there on Philly Future. It's quite a community. Very cool.

Personally...

I think my essay is better than my photos.

Hey, I'm a writer by trade; I have to promote that first. (And, yes, it's really scary that it's been a year since I graduated.)

I like both

Excellent work on both. I'm a visual learner, so I tend to like pix first...but the essay is excellent as well. Thanks for sharing this material.
