- Blurb about yourself
I worked as a newspaper reporter and copy editor for two about two decades. Also wrote some long magazine articles. Hold an M.A. in Journalism. (Don't do it; BIG waste of money and time.) Not enough fun or money at newspapers. Was seduced by the Dark Side into the world of consumer medical publishing. Better money, but lots less fun. Ejected from corporate life last September. Now trying to make a go of magazine journalism and nonprofit and consumer health public relations consulting. No flacking, no bullshit--intend to abide by journalism (old school) standards of truth and accuracy and serving the public interest. Gee, hope I can make a living. I'm a good listener, fanatical note taker, reliable deadline beater, industrious (when work is purposeful) go-getter. I'm fascinated by all kinds of people. I still get a tingle down my back when I hear a good quote.
I was a mom long enough to develop a fine-tuned bullshit detector; but preserved just enough naivety to escape total cynicism.
Covered everything from sewage sludge dunming in the New York Bight to viewer activism to SciFi conventions (they're not what you think) to mailbox pipe bombs to planning commission meetings about impervious surface ratios to orange-robed monks at the regional Buddhist temple. One of whom, after observing my fidgety attempt at meditation, remarked with a serene smile and a song-like lilt: “Please feel free to join us for meditation again sometime because you really suck at it.”
I ride a road bike, scuba dive, backpack and do other things that prompt my adult children to admonish me to "act my age."
